Job Description:

With more than 140 professionals trained in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, construction engineering and architectural services, Knight is able to provide innovative design and management solutions to both public and private clients from our offices in Chicago, Springfield and Bolingbrook, Illinois and from our Onalaska, Wisconsin and Ames, Iowa locations.

The Chicago Office is seeking an experienced Traffic/Civil Engineer to take a lead project role on a broad spectrum of public and private sector traffic related assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently apply standard civil and traffic engineering principles and techniques.

  • Lead project efforts in the area of impact analysis, traffic safety analysis, and highway and intersection capacity analysis.

  • Prepare traffic impact/access studies, corridor and parking studies and IDOT type intersection design studies.

  • Perform Transportation modeling and traffic simulations;.

  • Perform planning and design of roundabouts, traffic calming measures and pedestrian facilities.

  • Design traffic signals and coordinated systems.

  • Design pavement markings/signs including highway guide signs and CMS.

  • Design of traffic management plans (TMP) including phasing/staging plans.


Experience and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering Required.

  • Minimum 10 years of traffic engineering project experience Required.

  • Illinois PE and PTOE Certification a plus.

  • Strong working knowledge of Synchro/Sim Traffic and HCS 2010 required, Travel Demand Modeling Software experience recommended, any previous experience with other software traffic modeling packages a plus

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving capabilities, organization and multi-tasking skills.

  • Strong technical, written and oral communication skills.

  • Familiar with the development of Traffic Impact Studies

  • Familiarity or working knowledge of Micro Station.
