Job Description:

With more than 140 professionals trained in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, construction engineering and architectural services, Knight is able to provide innovative design and management solutions to both public and private clients from our offices in Chicago, Springfield and Bolingbrook, Illinois and from our Onalaska, Wisconsin and Ames, Iowa locations.

The Chicago Office is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to take a lead project role on a broad spectrum of public and private sector with an emphasis on highway/roadway, design, and transportation related fields.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work within project teams, with direction from Project Manager, to support project goals and work plans, while achieving quality, innovation and profitability objectives within budget and on schedule.

  • Be a proactive project team member in the processes and development of technically sound and innovative planning and design solutions.

  • Work with project team to assure that the firm’s best practice standards and procedures are being implemented.

  • Contribute to the achievement of project profitability within parameters specified by the Project Manager and targeted for each project.

  • Within the project team, assure that technical quality of projects is achieved and enforced applying process standards and requirements.

  • As part of the project team, ensure appropriate client and internal communication including written project documentation.

  • Participate in meetings and presentations when appropriate as directed by Project Manager.

  • Contribute to positive client relations within the project team representing quality work.

  • Communicate design, construction, and other issues to project team and Project Manager in a clear and compelling way.

  • Communicate proactively to team and Project Manager when necessary to obtain approvals for additions to scope of work.

  • Perform overtime work and travel as reasonably required.

  • May handle other responsibilities as needed.

 

Experience and Skills:

 

Job Requirements:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

  • Bachelors in Engineering required.

  • 5-10 years relevant project experience.

  • Strong technical, creative/design performance, communication, team-work, presentation, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects.
