The Chicago Office is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering with 5-10 years of relevant industry experience, preferably in the Chicago area for 5+ years to join the growing MEP department at Knight that presents an opportunity for personal growth, advancement and overall project coordination.  This individual will collaborate with the MEP department director, the Principal Electrical Engineer as well as MEP, Architectural and civil project managers and project engineers to help Knight provide industry leading professional services and cost effective designs. 

You will be asked to lead electrical project engineering for power, signal and lighting consulting and design on variety of project assignments including but not limited to private, public and institutional sector projects for new construction and renovation for low-, mid-, and high-rise buildings, as well as transportation sector projects including lighting and power/signal roads and bridges.

Electrical Engineer Job Duties:

  • With initial guidance from senior electrical engineers as required, direct the design of power, signal and lighting systems in accordance with most recent versions of applicable codes and standards

  • Complete projects by guiding and coordinating efforts of electrical project team members

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

  • Prepare bid and construction drawings including demand load calculation, panel schedules, lighting and power plans, lighting control diagram, etc.

  • Prepare or modify specifications for drawing specification sheets and booklet specifications using Master Spec and proprietary modifications

  • Work directly and coordinate with Owners, Architects, Utility Consultants, General Contractors, Structural Engineers, Civil Engineers and MEP team to produce finished drawings

  • Work directly and coordinate with Building Department officials as may be required for plan approval or variance requests

  • Maintain proficiency with and identify and understand applicable codes and standards including modifications by local AHJ

Experience and Skills:

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred

  • Bachelors in Engineering required

  • 5 years relevant industry experience

  • Strong technical, creative/design performance, communication, team-work, presentation, and organizational skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects at the same time

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD required. Experience with Revit preferred.
