Job Description:

Knight specializes in a wide variety of engineering and architecture planning, design and management projects. With more than 140 professionals trained in civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, construction engineering and architectural services, Knight is able to provide innovative design and management solutions to both public and private clients from our offices in Onalaska, Wisconsin, Ames, Iowa and our Illinois locations in Chicago, Springfield and Bolingbrook.

Our Chicago office is looking for an Entry Level Architect with up to 5 years of experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the research of project-specific components, code analysis, production of construction documents (plans and specifications) and coordination with sub-consulting engineering teams. The ideal candidate will also assist with responses to Requests for Information and other correspondence, along with additional tasks in support of project development.


  • Support the project managers in the creation and development of overall design concepts for new buildings as well as renovation projects
  • Provide creative and process leadership to multiple design teams through all phases of projects
  • Perform design and architectural duties as directed by the project manager
  • Support the project’s documentation process
  • Support the development of building system concepts for projects
  • Support material and product research for projects
  • Attend project meetings when requested
  • Perform other project-related tasks as assigned by the discipline project leader

Experience and Skills:


  • Bachelor of Architecture required
  • Maximum of 5 years of architecture and design experience with a strong background designing multiple building typologies of varying scale
  • LEED AP preferred
  • Computer skills to include: AutoCAD, Revit, 3D Studio Max
  • Following skills a plus: SketchUp,, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite
  • Construction documentation and/or design detail development experience
  • Excellent analytical/problem solving skills and outstanding graphic presentation skills are required
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate design ideas and direction clearly and efficiently
